Kickstarter won its first National Design Award in 2020 after seven consecutive annual nominations. This also marked the first year that Kickstarter utilized in-house video resources and expertise to produce a high quality, on-brand submission video.
My goal as the Director was to visually illustrate Kickstarter’s positive role and sustained impact in the design community in a dynamic and engaging way. A mix of repurposed assets and newly-shot footage were combined to highlight some of the organization’s most notable contributions to the design profession and celebrate Kickstarter-funded work that has gone on to live in the permanent collections of the Cooper Hewitt, MoMA, and the British Museum.
By shooting fresh, relevant material and repurposing existing assets of the highest quality, we were able to communicate Kickstarter’s story in a powerful way and take home the 2020 Design Visionary Award.
